we need help

Well 2014 has come on with a BANG – and the year of the horse is a force to be reckoned with – let me tell you!

Over here at Tiny Oranges we are holding on to the reigns and  galloping full speed ahead to implement new ideas to make Tiny Oranges even BETTER for you.

Why? Because the WHY behind why we work our buns off here at Tiny Oranges is because we want to INSPIRE MOMS like you with juicy ideas.

There are really fun things in store this year including a fresh update to our site design, a big giveaway, and so many things I want to do, BUT I need help in order to get to work on these ideas swimming around in my head!

I am looking for a few very part-time Orange County moms to join our team. Hours are completely flexible (and again, minimal.)

Here is what I am looking for…

Pinterest Development

Do you love Pinterest? Are you a Pinterestoholic? Would you love to help us build our Pinterest presence?

Because we are a blog on a mission to inspire, we want our Pinterest boards to be filled with so much pin-spiration, it’s a must follow for all moms.

The position would include building and curating our boards, building Pinterest followers, following new pin-spirational people and pinning older posts so we can make our boards the most pin-tastic possible.

Okay, enough with the pin puns.

Approximately 3 hours a week.

If interested email pinterest@tinyoranges.com for more details.

Contributing Writers/Bloggers

I am looking to build our team of contributing writers so we can continue to share new and unique ideas from moms at different stages of mommyhood.

Do you love to write? Share your experiences with other moms? Have a passion for certain parenting topics? We would love to hear about your interests to see if it might be a fit.

Graphics are equally as important as writing, so I am looking with someone who has a knack for photography and familiarity using PicMonkey.com (affiliate link) or Photoshop in order to be able to create accompanying graphics.

You do not have to be a professional photographer or graphic designer, but familiarity is a plus!

Approximately 1 post of original content per week.

If interested, email writing@tinyoranges.com for more information.

Best, Jen XOXO

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone! I hope you have a wonderful day in store with the ones you love. Today I am so excited to introduce you to Christy, one of our new contributing writers at Tiny Oranges!

I had Christy fill out a fun questionnaire to get to know her better.

Here is what she wrote…

The Basics

Where were you born?

The Bay Area

What’s your sign?

Virgo (and I am a TRUE Virgo!)

How many kids? Ages?

Two little angels…a 5-year-old little girl and a 2.5-year-old little boy

Where do you live?

Aliso Viejo

How long have you been married?

Eight years!

Fun Stuff

What is one of your favorite quotes or sayings?

“It’s supposed to be hard. If it wasn’t hard, everyone would do it. The hard… is what makes it great.” –Tom Hanks character, A League of Their Own

Oh, and “Just keep swimming, just keep swimming.” — Dori, Finding Nemo

What was your first job?

When I graduated from college, the market was also pretty tough…my first job was selling payroll and tax services as an outside sales rep.  I was a journalism major.  Needless to say, it did not work out. My first job EVER was babysitting when I was 11 or 12.

What is your favorite form of exercise?

Right now, running!  I just completed my first half marathon last month and am now training for a full. It’s addicting!  But, I’ve danced my whole life.

What phrase are you known to use the most?

Hmmmm….probably “Eyes!”  I say this to my kids ALL of the time.  Meaning, look at mommy’s eyes and pay attention!

What is the one food you could never give up?

Chocolate.  Oh, and it’s not a food…but coffee.  I LOVE coffee.

Where is the prettiest place you have ever visited?

Paris.  My most favorite city in the world.  I’ve been so blessed to have visited three times so far!

How did you meet your husband?

Freshman year of college.  I helped him move into his dorm room.  I had dinner with his parents that night at the “Welcome to College” family dinner.  We’ve been together since fall of our freshman year!

What’s one thing on your bucket list?

Run a full marathon!

If you had the day off from mommy duties, how would you spend it?

Easy! A nice hot grande mocha (By myself.  In peace.)  Target.  By myself…in peace.  A nice long run.  Any fun shopping for the kids (hey, by this point I’ll miss them terribly!), lunch with a good friend, a pedicure, catch up on work and emails…in peace, a dinner date with my adorable hubby…and then home to tuck my little ones in and read bedtime stories!

What are three words your best friend would use to describe you?

Loving, friendly and organized.

Mom Stuff

Do you think it is easier or harder being a mother now than when you were growing up?

I think every generation has their own set of challenges.  And, when I talk to my mom about raising my little angels, we can relate on so many of the same kid raising issues.  I don’t think it’s a matter of harder, rather than different.  When I was little, I could play outside in the cul-de-sac with neighborhood friends, hop houses, and just “be home by dark.”  This is not happening with my kids in the world we live in now!  But, I also have a cell phone for instant communication with anyone at anytime, a microwave to heat up chicken nuggets, five-point harness car seats (and for infants…rear facing in the BACK seat of the car)…the list goes on…things that my mom didn’t have…or only had later in my childhood.

What’s one of the funniest things your child has ever said or done?

Which child?  How much space is there on this blog?  Just kidding. Each are funny little independent creatures that say the dardnest things all.the.time.  Hmmm, when my daughter was 3.5, she said very matter of fact, “Mom, I was in your tummy.  Then I became me.  I was in your belly like my (baby) brother, then I grew into me.  And Santa used his magic to bring me here.”  My response?  “Well, okay then.” [quickly changed the subject]

What’s one of your favorite places to take your kids in OC?

Aliso Creek Beach in Laguna!  The playground is perfect for running out kid energy, and it is the most beautiful place for us to eat our homemade picnics.

What’s the best parenting advice you ever received?

Hmmmm, this is a hard one.  I’ve received LOTS of good advice.  What comes to mind immediately is…make your legacy in being the best mom you can be…not having the cleanest house or the most organized life.  I have to remind myself of this often.  (you can refer back to me saying that I am a TRUE Virgo).

If you could give one piece of parenting advice to a new mom, what would it be?

Don’t be so hard on yourself.  Your precious little one does not come with an instruction manual.  Whether it’s your first child or your fourth, every child is different and every child needs different things from you as a parent.  You’re not going to do everything perfect.  That’s okay.  The baby will cry.  That’s okay.  The baby will not follow any of the books you’ve read to prepare for motherhood.  That’s okay.  Lean on your partner, lean on your friends, lean on fellow mommies, and when someone offers help, TAKE it. This does not make you any less of a supermom!

Tiny Oranges

What topics are you most excited to write about on Tiny Oranges?

Easy!  I love to write about topics I am currently experiencing – anything and everything kids!  I’m already writing about rainy day blues cured, how to survive a playdate disaster, researching and choosing the best school for your child, transitioning your kids to “real” food versus “kid food” (my son thinks he can survive solely on chicken nuggets alone)…the list goes on!

Thanks Christy! We are so excited to have you on our team!  If you happened to miss my other post on Aimee, you can click here to meet Aimee.

Have a wonderful day mamas!
