Wordless Wednesday: Anticipation

I haven’t done a Wordless Wednesday post in awhile and I couldn’t resist sharing this one of my girls walking out to see if Santa arrived on Christmas morning.

I love that they are both holding their lovies and blankie.

I love that they are holding hands.

I love that my five-year-old does not get out of bed without a matching hair accessory.

I love matching Christmas jammies.

And most of all, I just love the look of joy and anticipation on their little faces.

Wordless Wednesday [Family Rules]

Emma (my five-year-old) and I have had some power struggles this summer so recently I had to lay down the law with some family rules because this mommy had just HAD it!

So I made a chart of “Family Rules” with three things she is to work on each day and at the end of the day if she does a good job following them she gets a sticker.

{Incidentally, I have no idea if this is a good or bad discipline tactic, but sometimes you just have to try anything when you are at the end of your rope.}

Then one day last week she asked me for some paper and a pen to draw before I put Morgan down for a nap. When I came out I saw that Emma had stuck this to the wall right below her “Family Rule” chart.

Yes, this would be “Jennifer Chart” of “Family Rules.”  With rule number one being, “Listen to Emma.”

Oh my gosh you guys, this child gives me a run for my money, let me tell you. But I have to give her one for creativity!

Wordless Wednesday – Joy

Words can’t even express the feelings and events that transpired last weekend at the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation Cinco de Mayo Run/Walk but my 22-month-old daughter’s face as she participated in the 1K Kids’ Fun Run pretty much sums it up…

Pure joy.

I was so proud of my little Tiny Oranges out there “running” for our team.  Stay tuned for a full event recap as soon as I come up for air this week!

Wordless Wednesday – Why Not?

This picture wasn’t from the beach.

It was from a dirty hole underneath the swings at our neighborhood park yesterday, the product of the prior day’s rain.

It was really gross.  Everything in me wanted to say to the kids, “Ewwww! Don’t play in that dirty standing water!”  And I heard other moms use just about those same words. But Michele’s post, “Ask Yourself: Why Not?” from Fun Orange County Parks flashed in my mind.  I loved that post. So I lightened up and let them go at it.

Did she step in the puddle emerging her entire bedazzled Twinkle Toe? Yes.

Did she get sandy? Yes.

Did she pick up a random phone receiver toy that was emerged in the water (so random), attempt to answer it, and get mud on her face?  Yes.

But the most important question was, did she have fun?

And the answer was an unequivocal, YES!

So, like Michele said, next time your practical side wants to jump in and everything in you wants to yell “NO!” Ask yourself, why not?

Wordless Wednesday – Smiles

We recently picked up a bag of McCain Smiles at our newly opened Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market in Costa Mesa {love that store!}

It was the first time I had ever seen these little potato smiles.  Have you?

When I put them on the cooking sheet and laid them all out in a row, you know what? They made me smile. Sometimes that’s hard to do during the 5pm dinner hour.

So thank you McCain Smiles.  The kids loved your little smiles too!
