Our Medieval Times Buena Park Experience [+ Giveaway]

When Medieval Times Buena Park contacted us to share about their new show and September SoCal resident special along with an offer for my family and Susanne’s to come and check it out firsthand for review, I thought, “Why not?! It would be something different.”

But I have a confession to make: I am a girly girl and I am the mother of two girly girls, so a visit to Medieval Times probably wouldn’t have occurred to me. My girls are not into swords or things of that nature so I honestly wouldn’t have thought of it as something they might enjoy. But oh, how WRONG I was!

Because the experience was AWESOME! The type of fun that makes your cheeks hurt from smiling and the type of joy that comes from seeing your kids in complete awe. Like when the show opened with this magical horse entering the arena…

Medieval Times brings you back to an age of bravery and honor with a dinner and spectacular tournament.

When we checked in, we were given seat assignments along with a special crown denoting our team (black & white) and the knight we would be cheering for.

Before the show we were able to enjoy a pre-dinner drink (a $6 glass of wine  – loved the reasonable price) and our kids were able to look around the gift shop and cruise around the garden.

Then we entered the theater in the round…WOW!

Our jovial waiter introduced himself, and let us know the food would be coming out in four courses, and a bar waitress would be coming around for any drink orders if we wished to partake.

It was nice to not have to order specific food (there is only one menu), which consisted of: tomato bisque, focaccia bread with olive oil, oven-roasted chicken, BBQ spare rib, herb-basted potato quarters, apple strudel. The food was delicious!

And then it begun!  A spectacle of beautiful horses and noble knights. As the show progressed, it was a sword fighting game of elimination where the knights competed in duels and the winner went on to the next level.

Unfortunately Mr. Black & White knight was knocked out the first round, but that was OK, because we were still able to cheer for our next favorite knight, the one my daughter picked based on outfit color.

Susanne’s daughter picked her favorite based on the amount of sparkles. What did I say about our girly girls? Here is Susanne’s cute family before the show…

For information on Medieval Times Buena, click HERE. Please also note that for the month of September 2o12, local Southern California residents can SAVE BIG with this special offer.

Our Medieval Times Tips!

Here are some of the things we would recommend if visiting Medieval Times with your family…

~ Arrive at least 30 minutes prior.  Probably 30 – 60 would be ideal. Seating is first come first serve. But there really is no bad seat in the house.

~ Come hungry. It’s a lot of food and it is so good you will want to keep eating the gluttonous sized portions. When in Rome, right?!

~ Bring a pack of baby wipes! In keeping with the theme of the times, you eat with your hands!  Yep, no utensils! Kids love this. And I thought it was fun too, but it is messy. The wipes will come in handy. Thanks to my Facebook fan for this tip.

~ Consider ordering one vegetarian meal when you check in. I ordered my one daughter the vegetarian meal, which included hummus and pita chips, grilled veggies and a stuffed pepper. The girls liked the hummus & pitas and my husband liked having some veggies too. Plus, there will be enough chicken to last you for days!

~ Don’t worry about all the leftover food – you can take it with you!  They are great with giving you take home containers and bags, so we ate the yummy leftover chicken throughout the whole next week.

~ If celebrating a special occasion, add on the Celebration Package for +$16pp and includes preferred seating, framed group photo, knights cheering banner, personalized announcement during the show, slice of cake, “Behind the Scenes” DVD and a commemorative program. I kept thinking what an awesome birthday party idea this would be for a small group of kids.

~ Take the kids potty before the show.  Once the action starts, you don’t want to miss a minute!  And after the show, there was a long line inside, but we found an open restroom outside that was vacant. Yay.

~ Be ready to CHEER! My oldest daughter was screaming so loud she got hoarse the next day. The more you get into it and cheer for your guy, the more fun it is.

Overall, we just had a blast, it was completely fun for everyone! And the food was DELICIOUS!

Family four pack ticket giveaway!

Now is the Time

I have written about this topic for years now because I feel passionate about sharing information on what parents need to do to make sure their kids would be taken care of if the worst were to happen to them.

It’s an awful thought, but better to get it done so you can move on with your life  with peace of mind.  If you haven’t already done this for your family yet, I hope now is the time.

Here is a guest post Darlynn Morgan from Morgan Law Group in Newport Beach wrote about this topic. Darlynn holds free workshops to educate parents on the steps to take to get your legal stuff in order, how to legally name guardians for your kids, etc.

There are two local OC workshops coming up at the end of the month to learn more. Details at the end of the post. Here is what Darlynn had to share about what she speaks on…

Today I’m going to share the secret to FINALLY getting your financial house in order, and I’m going to tell you up front that it has nothing to do with budgets, selling everything on Ebay or working longer hours! This is information you’ve probably never heard before from your financial advisor or CPA, but it’s going to shift your thinking and give you incredible peace of mind.

Before I get into it, if you’re a parent with minor kids at home, the very first thing you should do is visit www.kidsprotectionworkshop.com and register for one of our FREE fall Kids Protection Workshops happening on Saturday, September 29th, 2012.

We’re hosting one at Xpecting at 9:00 am and one at Granola Babies at 2 pm.  These workshops are fast, fun and will teach you everything you need to know about naming legal guardians for your minor kids, leaving a legacy for your loved ones and protecting your family’s wealth if the unthinkable happens.  I’ll touch on why this is so important in just a minute.

But in the meantime…

You’re young and smart —and working hard to build a solid financial foundation for the benefit of your family.  Financial freedom is starting to feel within reach and the future looks promising.

Or is it….?

The “typical” definition of financial freedom means no debt, 6 months savings in the bank, a paid off house and saving towards retirement so you can stop working. The pop culture “teachers” of personal finance tell us that this is when you’ll experience financial freedom …. and so we spend our lives working towards those goals.

But what if we look at it in a different way….

Because maybe you’re just starting out, and have lots of student loan debt, or bought a house that is now upside down. Or maybe you’re just starting a family and are overwhelmed by the reality of the costs of those little mouths to feed. Maybe you’ve even lost your job or your biggest client and you’re wondering where the money is going to come from.

Or, maybe you’ve got millions in the bank, but you’re afraid because you’ve just seen your accounts or your house lose a chunk of their value. Isn’t it funny to realize that sometimes financial freedom has nothing to do at all with the amount of money you have in the bank?

So how can you experience this financial freedom if you don’t have a big savings account, or you have loads of debt, or you’ve not saved enough for retirement, you don’t know how you’re going to pay for college, or if you feel fearful when you think about your financial situation? (Even though by the standards of most of the rest of the world you have plenty.)

The first step is to get your financial house in order. Do you know with absolute and total certainty what would happen to all your stuff, your business, your kids ….if something happened to you? Or if something happened to your spouse? Do you have a plan in place to make sure that at the end of your life (whenever that may be) you leave the world a better place? That you improve the lot of your family not just financially but emotionally and that you don’t leave behind a big mess?

Now a lot of people think “oh that’s too scary to think about” but it’s not. It’s actually very empowering. Because right now, everything is just fine and you have a clear head and you can start to think about why are you here. How will you leave the world a better place?

You start by knowing that your financial house is in order and that your family, the people who love you and who you love are going to have an easy time of it when you’re gone.

So that is your first step to financial freedom! It’s not about 6 months of savings and getting out of debt and paying off your house, although all those things are great…. but you could do all of those things and still not experience the freedom you’re looking for.

If you’re always waiting to experience freedom until you “arrive” you’ll never get there.

Here’s the good news:

If you don’t have an action plan, then now is the time… you can learn how to create one by joining me for one of our upcoming Fall Kids Protection Workshops

Halloween Time at Disneyland 2012

We have taken our family to Halloween Time at Disneyland for years and it is absolute FAVORITE family events for a spooky good time! Now through October 31st, the park is decorated in boo-tiful Halloween decor and has lots of fun in store for the whole family. Here are some details about the Halloween festivities going on at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure this year.

The after-hours Mickey’s Halloween Party, a separate ticket event, has become an annual highlight of Halloween Time for trick-or-treating families and will take place in Disneyland Park  on 11 special nights. Tickets are available at www.Disneyland.com/Halloween.

Ticket includes:

~Admission to Disneyland Park up to 3 hours prior to the event’s start time.
~ Complimentary parking for one vehicle. Larger vehicles may require an additional fee.
~ Special trick-or-trick stations with candy and healthy goodies.
~ Halloween Screams fireworks spectacular.
~ Dance parties, and the chance to eat, drink and be (not so) scary throughout the park.
~ Access to nearly all the attractions, including the Halloween-themed Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy and the Haunted Mansion Holiday.
~ Photo ops with popular Disney and Pixar Pals and Disney Villains.
~ Mickey’s Costume Party Cavalcade, a Halloween parade presented for Party Guests.

~ On select nights Annual Passholders save $18.
~No ticket required for Guests 2 and under.

Mickey’s Halloween Party invites children to wear their costumes (and adults too!) and trick-or-treat at the resort. Disneyland + costumes and trick or treating? Could it get more fun for the kids?!

And throughout the park during Halloween Time at Disneyland 2012, the fun gets even spookier this year, with the new Disney’s Halloween Time Carnival featuring “The Astounding Cauldron of Magic” at Big Thunder Ranch along with annual favorites like ranch animals, pumpkin carvers, Halloween decor and activities for little ones.

Ahoy matey! Got any pirate lovers in your house? At Pirates League in New Orleans Square, guests three and up can live out their pirate dreams and learn the ways of the seven seas by choosing one of three pirate transformation options: Jake and the Never Land Pirates, First Mate and Empress (for pirate princesses). Pirates League is for a limited time only this fall. For Pirates League Reservations call 714.781.7895.

But one of my very favorite things at Disneyland at Halloween Time has to be the Pumpkin Festival, where more than 300 pumpkins are on display on Main Street, U.S.A. Really gets you in the fall mood with all the festive decor!

At Disney California Adventure Park, “The Art of Frankenweenie,” a special exhibit in Disney Animation, Hollywood Lane, features some of the actual sets, props and puppets used to create the “Frankenweenie” film, Tim Burton’s new movie opening in theaters Oct. 5th. A special sneak peek of the movie will be on view September 14th – November 5th.

For spine-tingling fun, drop in at The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, where a “supernatural” event happened on Halloween evening, 1939, forever haunting the building.

I can’t more highly recommend this event for the entire family, it is really (not) frightfully fun for the whole family!
