Serta Labor Day Sale

I wanted to share this sweet Serta Labor Day sale going on this weekend for anyone in the market to buy a new mattress! I am proud Serta brand ambassador and have been fortunate enough to receive complimentary mattresses for my family which we have been sleeping on blissfully for the past two years.

My husband and I sleep on the iComfort Prodigy with Motion Perfect Adjustable Base. Love it [cue angels singing.]

Both my girls sleep on the iSeries Merit hybrid mattress. Love them [cue children’s choir.]

If you have been thinking of starting to mattress shop, now is a great time to go into a store and hit the Serta Labor Day Sale going on this weekend!

The sale includes a free boxspring with the purchase of an iComfort or iSeries mattress.

Or, if you are considering the adjustable base (and this is not your grandma’s adjustable bed – let me tell you!), you can save up to $1000 on a Serta adjustable foundation with a qualified iComfort or iSeries mattress purchase.

Now is also a great time to shop for a new Serta Perfect Sleeper mattress with their Hot Buy event going on for a limited time, including prices starting as low as $299 for a queen size Perfect Sleeper mattress.

Check your local Serta retailer for details on the Serta Labor Day sales events.

There is a great tool on the Serta site that asks you a series of questions to help you determine what is the right mattress for you?

But, nothing is better than going into the store yourself and trying out several different mattresses by doing a “rest test” and actually laying down on a variety of mattresses because comfort is subjective and differs from person to person.

Have a fabulous weekend everyone! My oldest starts second grade on Tuesday, can’t believe it. Fastest summer on record!

[Disclosure: I am a part of the Serta blogger program and have received complimentary mattresses for my family and other Serta products to facilitate firsthand reviews.]

Protect Yourself from Home Burglary

Almost 6 years on my birthday our home was burglarized. This post is on tips on how to protect yourself from home burglary based on things I learned going through the experience. Twice.

What are the chances?! My family’s home was burglarized when I was 11 and then my own family’s home was burglarized as an adult.

No one was home, or hurt, either time, which was the most important thing, but once you are the victim of a crime like this, you are never quite the same. Which is why I wanted to write this post – in the hopes that some of these tips on how to protect yourself from home burglary might keep it from happening to one of you.

The truth is, no one thinks it could happen to them. I see neighbors leave windows wide open when they are not home, and I cringe, because I know, it can happen.

I am going to share my most important tip first. Please do this today, like after reading this post…

1. Do not keep valuable jewelry in your jewelry box!!!

Your jewelry is what is typically most sentimental, and most every person keeps their jewelry, costume or valuable, in the same place.  Robbers know this. Any pieces you own that are not worn daily on your body HIDE in a location a robber would not be able to find quickly when canvasing your house for small items that can be sold or pawned easily.

2. Lock all windows and doors when you leave your house.

Even if you are just running down the street to the market, lock your doors and windows when you leave! Most robbers watch or check to make sure people are not home, and can be in and out of your home with your valuables in a very short amount of time.

We take it a step further and put sticks in our windows as well, along with a padlock on our outside gate that leads to our backyard.

3. Get a home alarm system.

I talked to my husband the week before we were robbed about getting an alarm system. It was literally on our list to do. After the burglary, we had one installed the next day. It makes me feel so much safer having an alarm. We set it every time we leave and every night when we sleep.

Prices have gone down considerably. It’s more affordable than you think.

 4. Keep/record the serial numbers on all your electronics.

If something is stolen, the police will ask if you have the serial number. If an item is pawned, there is a chance it will be recovered through the serial number if you have it. This happened to us – we got our camcorder back from a pawn shop when it was found through the serial number.

5. Keep the power cords in a separate place from your devices.

I saw a “recovered” robber on a nightly news show offering tips on how to protect yourself from home burglary, and he said it is more difficult to sell items without chargers and advised to keep them in a different place.

6. Deter, deter, deter

Make the outside of your house less desirable…alarm signs, Beware of Dog signs, bushes trimmed so windows/doors are not hidden, lock on your backyard gate, locked doors/windows, etc. Anything that makes your home look like more of a risk that the next one or more difficult to get in, is a good thing.

Thanks for letting me get this off my chest. Any other tips or advice you would like to share from experience or not?

beach bootcamp benefiting LLS

My friend Angela, owner of the popular fitbook by fitlosophy, lost her mom recently to a vicious form of leukemia just 18 days after she was diagnosed. 18 days. I truly can’t imagine the depth of devastation.

To honor her momma’s memory and raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), she has joined their team in training (TNT) to run the Nike Women’s Half Marathon with a goal to raise $50,000.

And I know she can do it.

How can you help?

Make a donation to her fitbook team HERE. Any amount helps, but if it is a donation of $56+ (the age her mom was when she lost her life), she will send you a free fitbook TNT as a thank you.

soccer classes for kids in Orange County CA

Today’s post is about a great program from a juicy new Tiny Oranges sponsor called Lil’ Kickers, which offers soccer classes for kids in Orange County and many other fun programs I am excited to share with you today.

My kids love everything about soccer – and this mama loves that they are active, running and happy.  Recently I had the opportunity to chat with Tim from Lil’ Kickers, who told me all about their fabulous soccer classes for kids and child development program.

And the best part?  He wants your kids to try the program for FREE! Simply mention this Tiny Oranges blog…and receive THREE FREE trial classes (valid for one child only).

Next Level Sports Complex

You’ll find Lil’ Kickers at the Next Level Sports Complex in Garden Grove – a premier multi-sport complex that offers a broad range of athletic programs for all ages.

Tim told me all about the Lil’ Kickers program and their philosophy about working with young kids.  Read below and see for yourself!

What makes Lil’ Kickers soccer classes for kids in Orange County unique?

One of the most unique aspects of the Lil’ Kickers soccer program is that we were created by child development professionals and soccer professionals.

It is firmly rooted in child development theories, and every class is designed specifically for where a child is developmentally, cognitively, socially, physically, and mentally.

What do moms love about your program?

We use imagination and creativity to engage with the kids. Soccer fields are transformed to become the bottom of the ocean or the galaxy above.  Kids are super active, super engaged, and have a great time.

What kind of “age appropriate activities” could we expect in a class?

In our  “Hoppers” class (beginning for three and four-year-olds), kids will learn soccer skills without knowing they are actually developing soccer skills.

We use story and imagination to engage the kids. This helps the children interact and stay engaged.

Our blue soccer balls become laser balls, or battleship cannon balls, or blue pearls that are at the bottom of the ocean…and the kids are in imaginary “scuba gear,” retrieving the blue pearls and bringing them back to the submarine before the octopus (the coach) stops them.

What ages do you teach?

There are classes for kids as young as 18-24 months which are Parent & Me soccer classes all the way up to age 9.. You can visit the website to see the class breakdown by age and along with class descriptions.

Tell us more about what you offer…

Lil’ Kickers is more than just soccer.  We have our weekly classes for kids ages 18 months to nine-years-old like I mentioned, but we also have soccer birthday parties that incorporate soccer and a whole lot more (bounce houses, dodge ball, basketball, kickball, flag football, and volleyball to name a few!).

We also offer a “Parents Night Out” on a regular basis where parents drop their kids off for “date night,” leaving their kiddos in the hands of the best babysitters, our Lil’ Kickers coaches.  We also have great OC summer soccer camps and winter soccer camps, too!

Want your Lil’ Kicker to try it out?

All you have to do is call us at 714-230-0706 x107 – mention this Tiny Oranges blog – and receive three Lil’ Kickers classes for FREE (valid for one child only).  SO excited to try them!

Thank you Tim for sharing more about your fabulous program!

Splash & Slide at Buccaneer Cove!

Boomers Water Park

Last Friday Susanne and I had the opportunity to take our girls to the new Boomers Water Park in Irvine, Buccaneer Cove, and we had a splash-tastic time!

Buccaneer Cove is the newest attraction at Boomers, a 20,000 square foot water park including big splash pad, five level structure with six slippery slides, tunnels, spray loops and splash bucket.

It is open daily through Labor Day and will be open weekends in September. Semi-private cabanas with food service are also available for all day rental at an additional fee.  You are also able to have birthday parties at Buccaneer Cove!

We loved that it was a gated in area, with one way in and out.

The structure is huge, but the entire area is not, so Susanne and I were able to relax in a lounge chair and watch the girls as they splashed and played.

The structure has several big slides (must be 36″ tall to ride), and a kiddie slide for little ones under 36″ with parent supervision.  Even Susanne and I had to take a ride down the big yellow slide. SO fun. Felt like being a kid again!

Something to note: No hair ties, necklaces, earrings or more than one ring are permitted on the slides so leave the jewelry at home ladies!

Here is the kiddie slide…

The Boomers Water Park is, in my opinion, geared towards younger kids, I would say roughly 12 and under.  Little ones that are not adventurous will have fun on the splash pad, but older kids will go crazy for the big slides.

There are also warm outdoor showers, so you can bring a change of clothes to rinse and then change your kiddos afterwards.

The price for a Buccaneer Cove ticket runs $19.99. But I just saw if you “Like” Boomers Irvine on Facebook, you can print a Buccaneer Cove coupon good for $4 off admission.

You can also add the Buccaneer Cove admission to the all attraction Boomers Champ Pass for just $10, for a ticket price of $36.99 when purchased online (or $39.99 at the gate.)

The Champ Pass includes 4 hours unlimited attractions plus $5 in video play.

For  more information, visit www.BoomersParks.com/site/Irvine.
