Granola Babies offers a wide array of great natural baby products, baby carriers and cloth diapers. What’s awesome is that  they also have many weekly play groups and classes so their darling boutique is not only a place to shop but also a place to hang out with other OC mommies!

But first, since we are on the topic of cloth diapering, I am sure there are a lot of common misconceptions out there about this enigmatic way to diaper a little tushie, so Giselle, the owner and cloth diaper user herself, wrote a great guest post on the basics of cloth diapering.   Does anyone reading this use cloth diapers?  Would love your comments below!  Here is what she wrote…

There’s so much information online about cloth diapering that a quick research can quickly become overwhelming. Our easy to follow Cloth Diapering 101, provided by Granola Babies in Costa Mesa, will bring you back to the basics so you can learn what you need to know to begin cloth diapering your baby.

When you hear cloth diapering, you’re probably thinking prickly pins and plastic pants.

But, cloth diapering is not like the old days. You can cloth diaper your baby in easy to use reusable cloth diapers that don’t even require a pin.

Giselle Baturay, owner of Granola Babies said, “I’ve been cloth diapering for 6 years with my three children and find cloth diapering as easy as using disposable diapers. But, the difference is that my baby’s bottom is chemical free and my family is saving at least $2000 per child by using cloth diapers.

There are various cloth diapering systems that are available at Granola Babies and determining the one for your family will depend on your budget, time and personal preference.

* Prefold cloth diapers are made of absorbent fabric that you simply tri-fold it into a waterproof cover. At a diaper change, you remove the prefold and reuse the diaper cover.

* One size pocket diapers have an absorbent insert and wick the moisture from your baby’s skin. They are a convenient choice because they can be used from newborn to potty training.

* All-in-ones cloth diapers include the waterproof outer and a sewn in absorbent insert in one simple diaper that requires no assembly.

* Hybrid diapers include an insert that lies against the baby’s skin and a reusable waterproof cover. Baturay said, “I’ve found these to be the most popular choice because parents like their ease of use, affordability and that you can reuse the cover throughout the day.”

Usually the most common question asked is – how do I wash the diapers?

A flushable diaper liner and a diaper sprayer allow for easy clean up for poopy diapers before wash. The basic wash routine is rinse/hot wash/rinse/rinse and then simply dry your diapers in the dryer or hang dry.

Most parents actually find cloth diapering laundry to be really easy and even fun since after the wash you get to reuse all of your cloth diapers again.

While cloth diapering has come a long way from our grandmother’s day, seeing them in person at Granola Babies can help determine if cloth diapers is the right choice for your family.

Granola Babies offers a trial package so you can try cloth diapers and bring them back if you decide they aren’t for your family. And there are free cloth diapering workshops every month.

Giselle commented, “At Granola Babies, I carry a wide range of cloth diapering because what works for one family, may not work for another. Knowing cloth diapers inside and out and providing expert advice is the key to helping families with their cloth diapering needs.”
