Kid Allowances: What do YOU think?

Let’s talk about kid allowances today.  Are they a “do?”  A “don’t?”  A maybe?  If so, how does your family go about it?

This subject recently came up in our home, as our little girl is now in 1st grade.  As she continues to grow, we continue to give her more responsibility.  Which she is handling with grace and a newfound maturity (most of the time).  With increasing her responsibility, we started talking about whether to give her an allowance at the ripe age of six….

Sharing is Caring

Teaching your kids to share

Sharing is hard sometimes.  If you’re little, then it can be really hard.  You have that favorite toy (okay, favorite LOTS of toys), and a sibling or a friend wants to play with it.  Or take it.  Cue the tears.  By the time my second kiddo came along, I had picked up a few helpful tips from friends and family for teaching your kids to share.  Here they are…

Let’s Talk About Sex

This is a compensated post written by me on behalf of Sony Pictures.

Let’s talk about sex.

This is not a topic I normally talk about on my blog, but after seeing the trailer for a hilarious movie called Sex Tape coming out in July with Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal, I had to write about it because most of us married with children people will be able to relate. Big time.

The movie is about a couple who have been married for ten years, two kids, are still very much in love, but well, the passion of the early days has cooled off. In an attempt to bring back the heat to their marriage, they decide to make a sex tape, and the private video is accidentally, shared. Oh, the horror!

You just have to watch the trailer, you will laugh out loud.

I love it in the movie when Annie says,

Kid Screen Time - How Much Is Too Much_2

Okay mamas, I’m ready to talk about something a little touchy in the parenting world.  Something that affects all of us…and all of our kids.  Screen time for our chidden.  We are in the generation of everything electronic – TVs, cell phones, iPads, handheld gaming devices, laptops, tablets, thousands of apps and games, and everything in between.    All at out fingertips.  Which means at our children’s fingertips.  So here’s my question today: how much is too much screen time for kids?

Let’s open up a dialogue, because I am genuinely curious to hear what other mamas have to say on this subject.  I’ll start.  Here’s my two cents…please feel free to agree, disagree or comment…

My Summer Incentive System

My Summer Incentive System for Kids

I just finished the first full week of summer with both girls home and out of school, and we had a really pleasant week. In summer’s past, this has not always been the case, which is why I am thrilled to pieces at the splendor of what some rainbow popsicle sticks can do.

I attribute the first week success to my new summer incentive system to inspire behaviors that make them nice humans to be around.

And it worked! Well. Which is why I am sharing with you today…
