So Cal Staycation Recommendations

We try to make it a goal each year to get away for a few days with the family for a little vacation.  Since my girls are still young, I am a huge fan of the staycation.  Or, a destination that is a fairly easy drive from Orange County.

Two years ago we stayed at the Huntington Beach Hyatt and last year we went to Rancho Las Palmas in Palm Desert. Both were amazing family-friendly meccas!

This year we want to go someplace we haven’t been before and I have been doing some searching online looking for places to stay.

A lot of places look awesome online, but I love to get feedback from real families so I wanted to throw this question out to my readers!  Where do you think is the BEST place to stay and vacay in So Cal with kids?

My girls will be 5 and 2 this summer, so we are looking for a place that falls within the  following parameters (in order of importance!)

1. Ideally under 2-3 hour drive from Orange County
2. GREAT kid and family-friendly pool
3. Fun things to do for families nearby
4. Decent, comfortable rooms
5. Kid-friendly common areas and dining

Have you stayed at a resort in Southern California that your family LOVED? Please do tell!

I saw this deal come through yesterday for Bahia Resort Hotel in San Diego on Screamin Daily Deals.  Has anyone stayed there before?

Let me know the greatest spot you have found in Southern California for a getaway with little ones!

Thank you for your help!!

xoxo

  1. The Bahia Resort was AWFUL. We stayed there because we wanted a kitchen and separate room for our family. The pictures on-line were deceiving! The rooms and the grounds were old and not kept up well-esp for the price of the room. If planing a San Diego trip, I ‘d suggest the Embassy Suites downtown. Or check VRBO.com for vacation rentals by owners. We found a great rental for June. Have a wonderful stay-cation!

  2. We like the la jolla beach and tennis club. Not super fancy rooms but they are ON the beach. U can walk to La Jolla and SD has so much for kids- sea world, legoland, wild animal park.

  3. We really enjoy the Hilton San Diego Mission Bay. It’s close to the zoo, Sea World, Downtown and has lots of boats, kayaks and such to rent. Great rooms that open up to nice big green belts. Most rooms have a sunken wet bar that opens up to the patio…good to bring food and eat some meals “in”.

  4. Lake Arrowhead Resort in San Bernardino Mountains, it has everything you’re looking for and more. We LOVE it!

  5. Jen, you have to check out the embassy suites mandalay bay in Ventura. Beach front embassy suites, nice beach, super family friendly and great location beachfront. The rooms are a little tired but good embassy suites service and free breakfast.

Another fun option is the Fess Parker’s Doubletree Resort in Santa Barbara. Right across the street from Main Beach, the pier and a fabulous park. The grounds are huge, beautiful views, good sized rooms and wonderful service. We rented bikes, walked State Street and well just enjoyed Santa Barbara. I highly recommend it!
