What’s on your workout mix?

iPod

It’s now been over three months and I had been using the “I just had a baby, I’m exhausted” excuse to explain my lack of exercise.  It was a challenge to find time to eat and brush my teeth!    So, where on earth was I going to find 30 minutes to exercise??

But then I had an unfortunate encounter involving a dressing room with terrible lighting and decided it was time to FIND those 30 minutes!  Not only for that reason, but when I start exercising regularly I just feel so much better overall.

I am NOT a runner.  Never have been.  I hate strongly dislike running.   However, I have decided I want to try to start jogging as there is no way I can get to the gym with two kids.   And, I always have access to my jogger and running shoes, so it leaves me with no excuses.

I am starting slow.  30 seconds jogging, then 30 seconds walking.  It’s actually going pretty good.  At the end of 30 minutes, I figure I ran (well ran is a generous word – it’s more like a glorified fast walk with a little bounce) for 15 minutes, which is 15 minutes more than I really have ever jogged in my life.

I find great music helps a lot.  Just getting a good, excuse the 90’s reference, “pump you up” song can really help motivate.    I have had the same songs on my iPod workout mix for way too long and I need some good new ones.  Will you help me?

  1. I’m all for music, but I get SO sick of mine – even though the ipod is full of 4200 songs! I’ve switched to listening to podcasts during my workouts and it keeps my mind occupied on something else…I’m also not one that really enjoys working out. My favorite is “Satellite Sisters” and when I was pregnant “Pregtastic.” They are all FREE on iTunes and they will automatically update when you open iTunes. Satellite Sisters is great – it keeps me up to date on current events and it’s a really entertaining and smart talk show! I highly recommend!!

  2. I am a runner, but in order for me to have a really great run I have to be strongly motivated. I accomplish this with my music. Rap seems to do GREAT!! The angriier the music the better and harder I run. I love this song right now called Dont lose your head, by Zion. I have to warn you my musics not pretty but it for sure gets the job done. I also like Linkin Park and Emenim. Kanye West, Black Eyed Peas and Akon also make the cut. Hopefully this will give you some extra motivation!

  3. I have not set foot in the gym in at least 6 months and it shows- lol- but when I do workout I love listening to some fun Latin Music like Shakira. I also like funky tunes like Lady Gaga. Have fun and thanks for the reminder. I need to go do some form of activity today!

  4. Oh I thought working out with a toddler at your feet meant you had to be listening to Sesame Street or Super Why. Here\’s some of my favs though…Staind, Linkin Park, Lady Gaga, Metallica, of course!!

  5. Wow, you’ve got some good ones on your list. Currently, my favorite is “All the Single Ladies”. 🙂

  6. I am a Baby Boot Camp instructor/ aerobic instructor and this is where I get my music. Go to http://www.clickmix.com this is a site for instructors (but anyone can use it). You can adjust the speed of the songs and make them continuous, no excuse to stop running!!! They have current songs and they are all fast paced to help you run/workout at a good cardio pace. Like I tunes you can download them to your ipod or burn a cd. Enjoy!

  7. Good for you for getting motivated! I could use a good kick in the pants so keep us all posted on how you workouts are coming along. My power songs are always the Black Eye Peas “Pump it” and “Temperature” by Sean Paul. I’ve also been known to add a couple old school songs like “We will rock you”(Queen) and “American Girl” (Tom Petty). Also I’ve used the Nike Ipod system where you have a little sensor that gets tied in your shoe and the other is connected to your ipod. It tracks how long your run/walk, the distance etc. and then you can upload it to track your progress. You also get random cheerleading from people like Lance Armstrong who pipes up in the middle of your workout with a “Great Job, this is your fastest mile yet!” Cheesy but cool 🙂
