Wordless Wednesday – Running with the Devil

Once again, too many words for a “WORDLESS” post, but I thought this was so funny I had to share!   Last Sunday I ran the Newport Beach Spirit Run 10K.  My first race EVER.  I am on a running kick these days, click here for the back story on how it all got started.

Anyhow, dear husband picks up my number the day before for me.  When he comes home he has this funny look on his face and says,  “you’re not going to be happy with your number.”  Then he holds up my bib.  See picture above.

I mean SERIOUSLY, my first race ever and this is the number I got?   Was it an omen the race was not going to go well?! Then I had to laugh because it was just kind of hilarious.

The next morning at the race I went to registration and asked if I could wear it upside down.  The lady told me she would feel more comfortable with me switching it.  Insisted I get a new number.  And she had fear in her eyes.  It still makes me laugh.

So, I raced as 1060 instead, and it was SO MUCH FUN!   I am not fast, but I don’t care.   Two months ago I couldn’t even run one mile without walking, so being able to run a 10K was huge for me.  I was on a high the entire day.

The beautiful woman next to me (no hat)  is my dear friend Pam. She was one of the friends who told me I could do this in the first place.  That’s us with our 5 kiddos between us.  We met the first day of freshman year in college and have been the best of friends since the day we met.  We are both doing the OC 1/2 Marathon on 5/2 and I am FIRED UP (no pun intended.) Hee hee..

After the race, I went to do the math on my pace per mile. Let’s see,  I finished in 1 hour 06 minutes. So, I did 6 miles in 66 minutes.

Enter Twilight Zone theme music.   Good thing I don’t believe in that stuff or it would be a little freaky!!!

  1. Maybe you should call them “Wordy Wednesdays”? And I mean that in the nicest way! These have been my FAVORITE posts lately. That story is hilarious. Congrats on a big milestone and great accomplishment!

  2. SO proud of you. You put your mind to something and just do it. You’re such and inspiration and I can’t wait to take on the next challenge together! Run like the devil!!!

  3. First of all Congrats on the race! I would have had to switch the number also. Having said that I was born in the 6th month of \’66. So maybe it would have been a good sign for me. Anyway, great job on the race.
