Baby’s First Library

The last two baby showers I have been to recently, including my own *baby* sister’s this weekend, the hosts did a really special, thoughtful thing for the mom to be.  In the invitation, there was a little note that said something to the effect of:  “In lieu of a traditional card, please bring one of your favorite children’s books.   On the inside cover, please write a little note for mom and baby.  This way we can help start baby’s first library!”

My sister got soooo many fun books, enough to fill a whole bottom shelf in her nursery.   Even more special were the notes people wrote inside.

So, if you happen to be throwing a baby shower for anyone in the near future, I had to share this idea because I know firsthand how much the mom-to-be will treasure these books!

  1. I love this idea. It is a great way to start off a collection. Love the books you posted up with the link. Counting Kisses is one of our family’s favorite bedtime books. The very hungry caterpillar was a favorite from my childhood and my kids are currently obsessed with it. Great post!!
It was so much fun to meet last night. Had a graet time chatting!!You are so much fun!!

  2. My sisters did this for my first baby shower. I LOVED it! The invitations were on bookmarks and bookplates were included in the invitation and all guests were asked to bring their favorite children’s book for his library. It was the BEST ever!!! We cherish those books and it is always fun to open and see who they are from even years later!

  3. The idea of the invite on a bookmark is SO cute! ! ! ! Thanks for sharing!!!

  4. I LOVE this idea…my daughter loves books and we read to her all the time, so there is so much repetition that having a head start to a vast library (without killing the parent’s pocketbook!) is a must!!! What a GREAT idea!
