10 Ways Parents Can Promote a Healthy Self-Image in their Children

One of my friends, Dr. Lydnsay Elliott, is a clinical psychologist specializing in eating disorders and body image. When she recently emailed me to ask if I would ever like her to write write something for my blog about how parents can help promote a healthy self-image in their children, I almost screamed through the computer, “YES!!”

As a mom raising two girls, it is something I think about a lot.

Another Jessica Bennett Interiors Tiny Oranges Project: A Little Boy’s Room

This past March I did a post on the extreme accessories makeover that Jessica Bennett Interiors did on my living room. Every single time I walk through my new living room it makes me feel happy.

From this first post, Jessica got lots of inquiries from Tiny Oranges readers also wanting some design assistance. One of these inquiries resulted in a super cute “big boy” room for a soon-to-be big brother of an OC mom in Irvine!

Camp Spooky at Knott’s Berry Farm

On Saturday my family and I had the opportunity to attend “Snoopy’s Costume Party” in Camp Spooky at Knott’s Berry Farm.

I hadn’t been to Knott’s Berry Farm since probably my sophomore year in high school, which was, um, quite some time ago so I was excited to visit again and take my girls for the first time.

During the weekends in October, Camp Snoopy, the area in Knott’s dedicated to rides for little ones, is transformed into Camp Spooky, a knott so scary way to celebrate Halloween!

5 Tips for a Successful Relationship by Lesley Malik, M.A. MFT

Before kids, I never used to get when people said “marriage takes work” because my husband and I were so compatible our relationship used to feel effortless.

But those were the days when, just for an example, we would sleep in on Saturday morning, have breakfast together, read the paper, maybe go for a bike ride or go grocery shopping together, hit a movie, go to a home store to buy stuff to work on our house, make dinner together or maybe go out for dinner and drinks, you get the idea.

Every weekend, all weekend it was just the two of us. And what that meant was we had a lot of TIME to focus on each other, talk and connect. No wonder it felt so easy!

Now after kids, I can absolutely see how marriage does take work. Anyone else feel the same?

There are stretches of time when I feel like we are both totally immersed in “Operation Scheumann Household.” We are a cooperative team focused on everything we need to do to take care of the kids and our household. Kids, activities, cleaning, shopping, birthday parties, organizing, work, bills, etc. etc. And unfortunately “Operation Scheumann Marriage” is often a neglected mission.
