Imagine, just for a day, what it would be like to take cars out of your daily equation. It’s hard for us (in a somewhat urban Orange County) to imagine what that would be like and how our kids would so enjoy that!

A special inaugural event called Re:Imagine Garden Grove is happening in downtown Garden Grove on October 12, 2014 from 11am-4pm in which a 2.85 mile route through Garden Grove streets will be closed to all cars.

During this FREE Garden Grove event, you will experience diverse music, art installations, interactive demonstrations, workshops and activities curated by CARS (Community Arts Resources) for citizens of Orange County to enjoy.

A few weeks ago I was invited for a special media tour to experience what the event will be like. I have to say…I was embarrassed that I grew up less than 5 miles from downtown Garden Grove…and I had never been there! We passed it many times on the way to Disneyland (straight up Euclid Avenue!), but we never stopped to enjoy this quaint, ADORABLE little downtown.  There are so many fun things for families to experience in this area, especially on October 12th!

Along the car-free route at Re:Imagine Garden Grove, families can experience a wonderful open park area available for picnicking, a picturesque historical housing district, several historic churches and the Garden Grove Public Library.

The Civic Center Park will feature a stage where people can Zumba! and enjoy lots of local music featuring a hip-hop dance group from UCI, Kaba Modern, and the LA-Based and Grammy-Award willing female mariachi ensemble, Mariachi Divas.

The kids will also LOVE the interactive play area!  Think ping-pong tables, a giant chess board and a rock climbing wall…how fun would that be for your littes?! There is really something for everyone at this event…even for mom and dad at the beer/wine garden and food trucks galore.

So feel free to bring bikes, strollers, skateboards, scooters (non-motorized), wagons, or just a great pair of walking shoes!  You’ll be glad you experienced this event and your kids will have a blast too!
