A Child’s Book Review of Wonder

My girlfriend raved about the children’s book Wonder after reading it aloud with her girls, similar in ages to mine. She told me the book is so profound and so moving it should be required reading in school.

With a recommendation like that, I ran straight to Amazon to order it for my daughter and my 8-year-old fell in love with her first book. She likes to read but I had never witnessed her love a book like she loved this one. I thought it might be fun for her to write her own Wonder review for other kids.

Wonder-Reviewv2

Hi my name is Emma! I am 8 years old, 9 in June and I am in third grade. I love to write but also read and do gymnastics. I read this book called Wonder by R.J. Palacio. It was so good I almost cried when it ended. I had never read a book I felt that way about.

Wonder Review by Emma, age 8

The book is about a 10 year old boy named August but his friends and family call him Auggie.

Auggie is very different from all of his friends. He is different because his face is deformed. Auggie has been homeschooled because he has had 27 surgeries but now his parents thought he was ready to go to school. When Auggie first went to school most of the children were mean to him because he looks different from them.

Auggie meets a girl named Summer at lunch on the first day of school.  They say their names are alike because August is in Summer. Summer made things different for him because she was a true friend.

The lesson in this book is you have to be nice to to people even if they look different because they are still a person.

I think all kids and even adults should read Wonder because it is just an amazing book!!!!!!!

  1. What a great idea to have Emma do a book review!( I especially loved her feelings she shared after reading it.) She has a “gift” and I’m glad she is sharing it. I hope we’ll hear more from her in the future!

    1. It was a game changer in the world of reading for her, I want to read it aloud to Morgan to see why!

  2. Love the report!! So precious to hear her views. I, too, have recently heard some great things about this book! Curious to know what you think the appropriate age is for this book. My daughter is in kindergarten. Good for now or should I wait a year or two?? Thanks!!

    1. Thank you!! Your daughter might love the book or she might not. My mom is going to read Wonder to my little sister and she is in kinder. I recommended the book to my best friend Sarah and she loved the book and said that it was the best book that she has ever read. I hope that your daughter loves the book!

  3. Emma, It was very exciting to see YOU as the “star” of Tiny Oranges today. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts about a very important book. Love you! xo Angie

    1. Thank you! When mommy heard that I loved Wonder so much she said that I just had to write a book review for her blog. I think your family would love the book! 🙂

  4. Emma, I’m writing through teary eyes, but this time it’s not Auggie, it’s you. Thank you for reading Wonder and for responding the way a parent hopes and dreams a child would. As much as I could say about the book, I couldn’t have said it any better than you.

Thank you for opening your heart and bringing your beautiful words, and most importantly, sharing both with us.

You my dear, are Summer too.

I love you and I am so proud of you.
