The calendar has turned, Fall is in the air and this month you can take your little goblins to experience a new kind of Halloween treat at Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure!

Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat Party at Disney’s California Adventure

My family was lucky enough to experience Mickey’s Trick or Treat Party on Friday night, full moon and all!   It was a beautiful night, probably about 78 degrees, the type of night that makes you happy you live in OC.  However, my daughter’s furry costume made for one hot little Elmo.   I was glad we brought some regular clothes too. I kicked myself for not throwing in last year’s Abby Cadabby costume – would have been way more weather-friendly!

A little about this super fun one-of-a-kind event!  For 11 nights in October (8,9,15,16,21,22,23,28,29,30 & 31), adults and children alike can dress up and trick-or-treat in the ultimate Disney neighborhood.

Some of the fun highlights include:  25 Treat Stops, a Hollywood Bat-Lot Bash in Hollywood Pictures Backlot, a nightly “Mickey’s Trick-or-Treat on the Street” cavalcade, character photo locations and a transformation of the Pacific Wharf into Pirate’s Wharf – an entertainment, craft and games area.

We got there right when it opened, and after spending some time at a little dance party at the Candy Corn Acres (Sunshine Plaza), we headed over to Paradise Pier.   It was really magical at night with all the twinkling lights.  When we were in line next to this cool colored fountain for the King Triton’s Carousel, my daughter looked at me and said, “Mommy, it is SO beautiful here!”    There really is nothing like experiencing Disney through the eyes of a three-year-old!

Our favorite ride of the night was Toy Story Midway Mania.  Have you been on that ride before?   So much fun!  Wearing crazy 3D glasses, you get to compete with your fellow rider on hitting virtual targets, as the car zips you through fun different 4D scenes.  It was Emma and I vs. Daddy.  Daddy won high score, but we beat him on accuracy.  Ha!  High five for the ladies!

On the way out, we got to enjoy the spectacular fireworks show.   Emma’s eyes were like saucers.  I looked around and thought, “WOW, it really IS beautiful here!”  There is just  something about setting foot on Disney ground that takes you to another world for a brief moment in time.  Times that memories are made of.

This is a separate-ticket event, $32 on most days in advance, $39 day-of, $42 on 10/30 & 10/31.  It’s a really special treat – your kids will LOVE it.   Click HERE to buy tickets.

Halloween Time at Disneyland

Spooky new fireworks and ghoulish screams at Space Mountain add to the fun now through November 1st at Disneyland!

Here are the spooky highlights of this year’s celebration!

For older kids and adults, Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy launches voyagers into a haunted section where ghosts appear in the starry darkness and reach out as if to grab you at full speed!

The new fireworks spectacular that haunts the nighttime sky is called “Halloween Screams – A Villainous Surprise in the Skies” and starts with Jack Skellington in a flash of fire above Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Jack also returns to take over the Haunted Mansion and bring back Haunted Mansion Holiday where the mansion is transformed to a mix of Halloween spookiness and Christmas tradition.   Did you know this year celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion??

The park also has lots of not-to-frightful fun!  Main Street, U.S.A. is transformed for the Pumpkin Festival where more than 300 non-identical pumpkins will be on display.

Throughout Big Thunder Ranch, you will find a seasonal Halloween Roundup with fun festive décor and activities for youngsters.

And of course, your favorite Disney characters will be there in seasonal costumes so you can experience some spooky fun with some of the more sinister characters, the Disney villains!
