i♥oc Giving Day

This post is sponsored by the Orange County Community Foundation to raise awareness for the i♥oc Giving Day 2015.

This post is for my fellow Orange Countians (I have never written Orange Countian before and I think I like it!) Do you love where you live? I do. It’s hard not to, right? Truth be told, I also have a mad love for fundraising.

For those of you who have followed my blog for awhile, you might remember our Team Tiny Oranges raised over $30,000 for the Pediatric Cancer Research Foundation a few years ago. The most beautiful example of what is possible when many people come together to donate to a cause.

-> It all adds up and makes a BIG difference!

Which is why I am over the California sun excited about the Orange County Community Foundation’s i♥oc Giving Day coming up on April 21st – 22nd, 2015. A first-ever countywide giving event to benefit local Orange County non-profit organizations working hard right in our own backyard.

The Goal:

i♥oc Giving Day will take place from 6am on Saturday, April 21st through 12pm on Sunday, April 22nd with a goal of raising $2 million for local Orange County non-profit organizations. To kick start the fundraising, OCCF is investing $500K to establish the bonus pool with a goal of generating $1.5M in online donations in 30 hours.  Think we can do it? I know we can!

A Child’s Book Review of Wonder

My girlfriend raved about the children’s book Wonder after reading it aloud with her girls, similar in ages to mine. She told me the book is so profound and so moving it should be required reading in school.

With a recommendation like that, I ran straight to Amazon to order it for my daughter and my 8-year-old fell in love with her first book. She likes to read but I had never witnessed her love a book like she loved this one. I thought it might be fun for her to write her own Wonder review for other kids.

Teachers Pay Teachers

I was sitting watching my daughters in their Team OC gymnastics class last week when I struck up a conversation with a mom next to me. Her kindergarten aged son was diligently working on worksheets in a binder next to her while we chatted. Being so impressed he was doing doing worksheets and not playing on a device, I took a closer look and noticed the difficulty of the worksheet.

Having a kindergartener myself, and assuming it was his homework, I expressed my shock at the…..

Bubblefest 2015

What an event!  I am excited to share about my family’s experience at Discovery Cube OC’s Bubblefest XIX – their amazing annual spring bubble extravaganza that features everything bubbles, now through April 12th, 2015.
